Child Protection
and Equalities

Child protection is an increasingly important issue in all activities involving children. Perhaps the most common reaction among adults asked to attend a child protection event for the first time is: "But it's all a bit exaggerated, isn't it?". The simple fact is that every week throughout the season, millions of children are involved in football training and football events – and tens of thousands of adults are also involved. Child Protection is high on the F.A's agenda. The goal is to have someone at every club in the country aware of child protection amd best practice. This means raising awareness, educating and at times trying to change attitudes to make sure everyone working with young people in football puts the youngsters first.
The issue of equality is also gaining in importance. We are lucky enough to live in a richly multicultural society. Everyone should have access to sport, regardless of gender, age, race, ability, faith or sexual orientation. We need to show respect for the differences we encounter. |

Cumnor Minors has a new Health and Safety Policy with risk assessment and will soon be working on a Recruitment of Volunteers Policy.
We are updating our Child Protection Policy (2005) to include more guidance on bullying.
We continuously monitor and recommend updates on qualifications for our coaches, managers, referees, first aiders and regular helpers.
We offer our own 'in house' soccer parent workshop to encourage parents to make a positive contribution to their child's love of sport. Currently this will be offered annually as part of the new recruits orientation.
All of our coaches and managers are CRB checked and have been cleared by the FA CRB unit in readiness for the 2007/08 season when this will be a mandatory requirement. For 2006/2007 we are extending the CRB checks to first aiders and other regular helpers in contact with the youngsters.
